Uninstall Otshot – What Is Otshot?

'I recently noticed a new program on my PC which apparently I downloaded somehow.  It is nested in my task bar (even though I uninstalled the program via the Control panel)  with a white square and a pink heart.  I rebooted the PC after the uninstall, but each time the PC starts up, it gives a message from otshot saying "Unable to load skin".  It then asks "Would you like to import your contacts from Outlook"; obviously I said no.  If I run the application, it looks like some kind of a photo application where you can load pictures and send them to recipients.’ - quoted from one of its victims.

FAQ: is OtShot a virus?

OtShot has been well recognized as a malware/ virus. We have to say that otshot has imposed many inconvenient on our computers. Plus the few reports on otshot adware popping up after its installation, we can at least classify it as a malware. All otshot does is for its commercial purpose, hoping more people to download and employ its product, yet in a wrong way. Pushy as it is, we can tell that changes have been made by otshot deep in the computer including browser section. With such program staying in the computer, vulnerability can come into being as default configurations, set originally to block attacks from virus, are changed. Therefore, we should uninstall otshot as soon as possible.

How to Remove Otshot Step by Step

Step1. Remove otshot from Control Panel
  • Windows 8 users to follow up:
Move mouse to bottom-right corner of your desktop -> choose ‘Control Panel’ in the pop-up sidebar-> "Programs and Features" -> remove there.

  • Windows 7/Vista/XP users to follow up:
Start menu -> point to Control Panel -> find and select otshot -> press ‘delete’ button.

Step2. Remove otshot from Database
  • Windows 8 users to follow up:
Move your mouse over lower right screen -> charms bar appears -> click Search charm -> type ‘regedit’/‘regedit.exe’ -> hit Enter key -> hold Ctrl and F key together to bring up ‘find’ box -> type keys there and hit Find button to remove it

  • Windows 7/Vista/XP users to follow up:
Start menu -> locate Run/ Search box -> type ‘regedit’ -> hit Enter key -> hold Ctrl and F key together to bring up ‘find’ box -> type keys there and hit Find button to remove it.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
“OtShot”=-]

Step3. Show hidden files and folders to remove otshot without leftovers hidden by it mainly in Temp and Roaming folders in Drive C.
  • Windows 8 users to follow up:
Start Screen -> open any folder -> click View tab -> tick ‘File name extensions’ and ‘Hidden items’ options.

  • Windows 7/Vista/XP users to follow up:
Start menu -> ‘Control Panel’ -> search for ‘Folder Options’ -> click View tab -> tick ‘Show hidden files and folders and non-tick Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)’ -> press ‘OK’.

‘I can't find it using control panel to uninstall it, but each time I reboot it shows up, tries to change my email to Outlook.  I have looked for answers on the web and I don't trust the sites I'm finding.  I have used Malwarbytes to scrub my hard drive, it tells me it finds nothing amiss.’ Appearing as a photo program, it is not usually recognized by security utilities as a virus. What’s worse, some vicious items are hidden, which makes the removal harder. The steps above have been tested to be efficient. If you fail to remove otshot, you may need to check if you have other virus or leftovers remain in the computer.
